Barbara M. Greenwood (Czapla), age 68, was taken from us suddenly while doing something she loved, riding her motorcycle on May 28, 2010. She was a resident of Clinton Township, Michigan. Barbara was born on June 27, 1941, to Steve and Helen Czapla in Hamtramck. She was the oldest sister to Robert and Carol (Bush). She was raised in Warren and graduated from Fitzgerald HS in 1959. In September 1966, she married William H. Greenwood, later they divorced but remained friends. She lived in Sterling Heights from 1976 to 1999. She held various jobs throughout the years. She was accepted by American Trans Airlines as a flight attendant at the young age of 58, earning her “first” set of wings in February 2000. As a flight attendant she was especially proud to be flying with military personnel as they headed to various locations around the world and relieved to be bringing them home safe to their families. In 2008, she discovered the love of riding a motorcycle and purchased a Honda Shadow. She joined the Freedom Cruisers Riding Club in 2009 and was given the nickname “Flyer.” She was an avid volunteer, always wanting to help others which included donating items to the local Abused Women’s and Children’s Center, volunteering at the Detroit Zoo, and welcoming home military personnel at the United Service Organization (USO). She enjoyed spending time with her mom, Helen and sister, Carol, her children and especially her grandchildren Vince, Alex and Mateo. She was survived by her loving daughters, Karen (Jim) McCombs and their family, as well as Gina (Ed) Zarate, three grandsons Vince, Alex and Mateo; mother, Helen Czapla; sister, Carol Bush; ex-husband, Bill; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends; and her loyal dog, Windsor.
U.S. Veteran Mr. David M. Barton, age 66 of Chesterfield Township, passed away unexpectedly Friday at his home. He was born on January 22, 1946 in Romeo, Michigan, a son of the late Clifford and Laura Ann (McLaughlin) Barton Sr. On November 8, 1975, Dave was united in marriage with Rebecca Silvernail. Dave served in the United States Army, worked as a clerk for ConRail and was a firefighter with the Chesterfield Township Fire Department. He was a member of North Shore Church and HOG Great Lakes SE Chapter, as well as the Freedom Cruisers Riding Club. Dave loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycles and loved going up north to Kalkaska.
He was born May 28, 1952 in Mt. Clemens to Joyce and the late Thomas Kelly. He married Koni Kilbourn on June 30, 1982 on Mackinac Island. Mr. Kelly was a 40 year member of Operating Engineers Local #324. He served his country in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed classic cars and riding his Harley.
He was a member of the Freedom Cruisers Riding Club and enjoyed riding with the Club. He is survived by his wife, Koni; two children, Nathan and Chelsea Kelly; his mother, Joyce Kelly; brother, Patrick (Kandy) Kelly; three sisters, Elaine (Edgar) Messick, Janice (Rick) Wolff and Leann (Mike) Mitchell; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dick (Jennie) Kilbourn; brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, Rich (Nancy) Kilbourn, Kristy (Jack) Helwig, Kevin (Patti) Kilbourn, Koralee Prater, Kyle (Julie) Kilbourn; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
